How to choose your first cigar

Choosing your first cigar should not be stressful. Start with mild to medium strength — labels like “mild” and “medium” are a good guide.

Format affects smoking time: shorter shapes (corona, petit corona) are great for a trial, while toro and robusto offer a longer experience.

The wrapper shapes much of the flavour: Connecticut tends to be softer and creamy, Maduro sweeter and fuller, Habano spicier.

For a first try, pick a quality cigar from a trusted shop, cut carefully and take your time — the first third is for opening up the flavour.
